Between Friends is a paired illustration presented as a set of postcards, exploring connection through fragmentation and physical assembly. Each postcard depicts one half of a butterfly, designed to remain visually incomplete when viewed alone and only resolve when paired. By using the postcard format, the work frames the illustrations as moments of correspondence rather than standalone images, emphasising distance, exchange, and dependency. The project focuses on how meaning can be constructed through pairing, restraint, and material intervention rather than narrative scale or quantity.

Hand embroidery is used to physically bind the two postcards together, functioning as both a visual and structural connector. The stitched spine allows the postcards to open and close, enabling the object to move and flap like butterfly wings, shifting the work from static illustration to a interactive form. The orange thread echoes the star-like marks in the background, visually integrating the binding into the composition rather than treating it as an external addition.
