The Poetics of Room is an artist book that explores how space can be understood as an extension of the body. Developed from time spent in my partner’s room in Fitzroy, the project examines everyday architectural elements through an anatomical and emotional lens. Influenced by Gaston Bachelard’s The Poetics of Space, the room is approached not as a neutral container, but as a lived structure shaped by presence, intimacy, and memory.
Through photography, collage, fragmented writing, and typographic systems, the book traces how prolonged attention can make the familiar feel strange again. Rather than documenting a room, the work reflects on dwelling as a form of care, where inhabiting a space deeply allows it to quietly transform you in return.
